What is it

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 15-34. (National Institute on Health)

Signs that a teen may be suicidal

  • Threatening to hurt or kill herself/himself
  • Seeking access to pills, weapons or other means
  • Talking or writing about death, dying or suicide
  • Looking for a way to kill themselves, such as searching online for materials or means
  • Expressing hopelessness, no reason for living or having no sense of purpose in life
  • Having rage, anger or seeking revenge
  • Acting recklessly or engaging in risky activities, seemingly without thinking
  • Feeling trapped
  • Being a burden to others
  • Increased use of alcohol or drugs
  • Experiencing unbearable pain
  • Visiting or calling people to say goodbye
  • Withdrawing from activities, friends, family or society
  • Having a dramatic change in mood
  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Being anxious or agitated
  • Giving away prized possessions
  • Aggression
  • Depression
  • Loss of interest
  • Irritability
  • Humiliation
